Frequently asked questions

How long does it take until results become visible?

A treatment can only be reliably assessed after several months. A rough guide:

  • After three to six months, first changes usually appear, such as reduced hair loss.
  • After about twelve months of regular use, the lasting result is usually visible.

At the beginning, hair loss can briefly increase. This shedding is a normal sign that the hair growth cycle is restarting, and not a sign that the treatment isn't working.

The timing and extent differ depending on your starting point. What matters is using the treatment consistently.

Which types of hair loss are treated?

We treat hereditary hair loss (androgenetic alopecia), the most common type of hair loss in men and women. This includes a receding hairline at the temples, thinning at the crown, and diffuse thinning across the scalp.

The active ingredients finasteride and minoxidil may be considered for this, either topically as a spray or orally, depending on the doctor's assessment. Both are well studied for hereditary hair loss.

Hair loss can also have other causes, such as nutrient deficiencies, thyroid problems, or stress (telogen effluvium). Whether your type is hereditary and can be treated is something a doctor determines based on your health questionnaire. For other causes, a different assessment may be advisable.

Are there side effects?

Yes. As with any medication, side effects can occur; they vary depending on the active ingredient and the form of administration. Here are the most important ones in detail.

With topically applied minoxidil, scalp irritation is the most common, such as itching, redness, or dry skin. Less commonly, unwanted hair growth on other parts of the body, headaches, dizziness, or a racing heartbeat can occur. Taking it orally can have a stronger effect on the whole body, for example on blood pressure and circulation.

With finasteride, sexual dysfunction is possible, such as reduced libido or problems with erection and ejaculation. Some users report mood swings or depressive moods. Very rarely, allergic reactions or fluid retention can occur.

Before every prescription, a doctor checks your information for contraindications, and the treatment is medically supervised. If you experience any symptoms, report them early so the treatment can be adjusted.

Is the treatment prescription-only?

It depends on the active ingredient. Finasteride and oral minoxidil are prescription-only; you can only get them with a doctor's prescription. Topical minoxidil as a spray, by contrast, is available without a prescription and only available from a pharmacy.

The prescription for the prescription-only ingredients is issued by a doctor after your answers from the health questionnaire have been reviewed. It is only issued if a therapy is medically suitable for you. A prescription is therefore never guaranteed.

How does Justhair work?

The process is structured and takes place online. Each step builds on the previous one:

  • You complete the health questionnaire about your hair situation and health
  • A doctor reviews your answers and, if suitable, issues a prescription
  • Your therapy is supported and regularly reviewed so that it fits you

The guiding principle is to use as little as possible and as much as necessary. The therapy is adjusted to your progress over time, rather than being set once and then left to itself. Whether a therapy is an option for you is always decided by the medical review. A prescription is never guaranteed.

When am I charged?

You are charged as soon as a decision has been made about your treatment, that is, when a doctor issues a prescription. So at the time of the health questionnaire, you don't pay anything yet.

If no prescription is issued because a treatment is not medically suitable, you incur no costs.

With the regular delivery, the same applies before each repeat delivery: first the medical review and approval, then the charge.
